Create Student Groups
To sort students in your course into groups, go to the desired course and click on People.
Click on the + Group Set button.
Give your new group set (1) a name (e.g. Presentation Groups). If you would like students to sign-up for their own groups, check the self sign-up box (2) and send these instructions Links to an external site. to your students. Alternatively, you can randomly assign students to groups (3) or you can create groups manually (4). Then click Save (5).
Your group set will now have its own tab. If you selected the option to create groups manually, select the new group tab and then click on + Group.
Give this group a name (e.g. Group A) and set a group maximum if you wish (2). Then click on Save (3). Repeat this step until you have created all the groups you need.
Drag and drop students into their appropriate groups.
You can now create group assignments Links to an external site. or group discussions Links to an external site. within Canvas.
With group assignments, only one student in the group has to submit the assignment. When grading the assignment in SpeedGrader, it will show the Group names instead of the student names. Once you give the group a grade, everyone in that group will see the grade and the comments.
Each group will also have its own Canvas homepage where they can collaborate on projects and communicate with other group members within their group homepage.
